Being able to access a router if you’re within the network is a very simple process. All you have to do is type the IP address of the router on the web browser, and login from there! As explained in modemfriendly.com, this IP address is usually 192.168.1.1, the standard for private IP addresses of many routers. But if you need to access your router remotely, either from home or any other place, how exactly can you go about it? Here’s the gist:
Accessing Your Router Remotely Much like when you’re trying to access your router from inside the network, if you want to do it from another place, you’ll have to type an IP address into the browser. However, in this case, you have to write your router’s public IP and then follow it with the remote control port number. The standard remote control port number, for instance, is 8080. Still, it’s not quite as easy as it seems, due to the fact that most routers don’t have the remote sharing option turned on, and because there’s a very good chance your router has a dynamic IP address. This means that for every time the router is restarted, a new IP address is assigned to it. Thankfully, both these issues are rather easy to fix.
